Magical Gratitude 28-Day Challenge: Day 17

Welcome to Day 17! 

Who is having an amazing week?
So, yesterday I got some news that was really frustrating at first. I was stomping around my house, worrying about the repercussions of the news. Then I realized, I had taken something for granted, and it only makes sense that I was going to be receiving less. I went up to my room, took my Magic rock, and thought about the situation. My first thought was, things will be more difficult, but I will figure a way out. No sooner had the thought crossed my mind did I realize that really, I wasn’t going to lose out at all. I have something else that I will start getting, which will more than compensate for the loss of the other. I’m sure your quite confused, but my point is that this practice helps you see where you are lacking in gratitude. It gives you a perspective that you’ve never had before, and therefore brings more magic into your life because you start appreciating even more. I don’t want to go into exact details, but I will say it has to do with money. It’s funny I had a little panic over money yesterday when today is all about getting more money!

Magic Check

Today we are going to write a check out, to ourselves, for an amount of money we need to do something that we would be incredibly grateful for. We can start small, and then when we reach the amount write a new check, or write it out for the whole amount up front. However you want to do it. As you can see from the photo below, I drew my own check, based on the check in the book. I could have photocopied it, or printed one off the website – http://www.thesecret.tv/magiccheck – but I felt that if I put time into drawing it, I would be able to clearly visualize what I would do with the money, and feel all the more grateful when I finished. 
When you are done writing out the check, hold it in your hands and play out in your mind what you are going. to do with the money. Envision that the check is real, and you are about to leave for the bank to cash it. What are you going to do? Who will you tell? See it as detailed as possible. 
Take the check with you today, or put it somewhere you can see it. You are to take the check into your hands and repeat the exercise two more times today – saying THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU each time. 
At the end of the day, put the check where you will see it daily. Every day look at it and feel grateful for the money to do or get whatever it is you desire. When you truly receive the money, write a new check for a new goal.

I just realized that for some reason these are publishing the day after, and I apologize for that! I will try to catch up, so they can go live when they are supposed to from now on. Magical Gratitude 28-Day Challenge: Day 16

Magic & Miracles in Health

Byrne states that “We should feel healthy, energized, and full of happiness most of the time, because that is how it feels to have our birthright of full health.” (p.149). I cannot disagree with her; while I don’t always feel energized, and I often feel the extra weight I carry around my hips and middle (and everywhere else), I am happy most of the time. But, based on the Universal Law of Attraction, if I were truly grateful for my health, then I would be healthier. I have a condition called narcolepsy, which causes me to feel sleepy often. According to my sleep specialist, I have no natural circadian rhythm. If you were to go to bed at the same time every night, and wake up the same time every day, then you would not need an alarm clock because you would just wake up at the normal time. You get hungry at the same times every day, have your second wind at the same time – you get the idea. With me, I could go to bed and wake up at the same time every night and day, but I always need an alarm clock. Some days it is almost painful to wake up at my normal time, despite getting 10 hours of sleep, while other days I wake up 4 hours before my alarm and feel wonderful. Some days I wake up with my stomach rumbling, but other days I don’t even think to eat until I’ve been awake for hours. I have to take a medication to keep me from taking “micro-naps”, which is when you fall asleep without warning for a few seconds. As amusing as it may sound, it has cost me jobs and got me into a car crash. The medication helps me wake up for the day, and helps me stay awake during stressful situations. I do not like having to take pills to function, but I’m grateful for them. Without them, I would not have come this far in the gratitude challenge! I would not get up to bring my son to school, I might get into accidents with my son in the car. Based on Byrne’s theory, if I’m grateful for feeling energized, I will overcome my ailment. I must be honest, I’m not sure if that will work – but I’m willing to try! I will start taking a moment every morning to feel true gratitude that I am awake, that I was able to get my son safely to school, get myself safely home, and stay awake to write when I get home. Gratitude has brought a lot into my life that I thought was not possible, like happiness, so my health could improve!

Miracles are not contrary to nature, but only contrary to what we know about nature.”

Today’s Exercise

We are going to take a three-pronged approach to “accelerate the results”, as today’s exercises are “designed to dramatically increase your health and happiness”. (p.151)

  1. Health you’ve received in the past: Think about 3 ties you have felt on top of the world, and say the magic words THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU !
  2. Health you’re continuing to receive in the present: Feel grateful for every organ, system, and physical sense that is currently working well in your body. Think about your arms, legs, brain…Choose 5 functions of your body that are well, and one by one, mentally say the magic words: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU !
  3. Health you want to receive in the future: choose one thing you want to improve about your body. Think about the ideal state of what you want to improve, and give thanks for the ideal state.

Magically Heal Your Relationships

Byrne starts the chapter off by saying:

If you have a difficult or broken relationship, are suffering from a broken heart, or hold any resentment or blame toward another person for anything, you can change it through gratitude. Gratitiude will magically improve any difficult relationship, whether that person is a husband, or wife, brother or sister, son or daughter, partner, boss, business client, work colleague, mother- or father-in-law, friend, or neighbor.

Chances are, you are not grateful for someone when you are harboring angry feelings. You’re angry, so you can’t be blamed for not stopping to think about why you’re grateful for that person. Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, said:

Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned. 

There is some merit to the broken relationship; you just have to look closely to see it. I have a troublesome relationship with someone, but if I stop to think about it, I have a lot to be grateful for! That person has made a lot of great things happen for me. Today, we are going to make a list of 10 things we are grateful for about one person we have chosen to mend a relationship with magically. The list should be formatted like so:
Person , I’m grateful for_______.

Today’s chapter reminds me of a situation I had just the other night. I went through McDonald’s drive through to get a smoothie, and the woman in the window was far from friendly. She impatiently barked “what would you like” when I ordered, “go to the 2nd window” when I finished telling her my order, said nothing but the amount I owed when I got to the window. She pushed the cup into my hand and all but threw my change at me. I considered telling her to drop the attitude, because I certainly did not deserve such gruff treatment. But then I thought about when I worked retail. I hate to admit, but when I was in college, there were days when all it took was one customer to get me really mad, and I was far from friendly – never rude but not friendly- with the rest of the customers. It wasn’t fair of me, and it isn’t fair of the McDonald’s girl, but she’s young and probably isn’t treated very well by many customers. So I smiled, told her thank you, and wished her a good night. I sincerely meant it, because I felt for her. 
Day 10 Exercise

Byrne calls this chapter “Magic Dust Everyone”, because you will be sprinkling magic dust on people by thanking them, directly or in your mind. Choose 10 people you receive services from – your kid’s teacher, your hair dresser, your dentist. – the list goes on – and take a moment to feel grateful for everything they do/have done for you.

Be sure to add 10 items to your thank you list every morning, and hold your rock and say thank you for the best part of the day.

Magical Gratitude 28-Day Challenge: Day 9

Welcome to Day 9! 

So, we have been adding 10 items to our gratitude list every morning, and each night we hold our gratitude rock thinking about the day and saying THANK YOU for the best part of the day. 
Today we are going to be practicing an exercise designed to bring us more money! (again!) Byrne has dubbed the chapter “The Money Magnet”.

Day 9 Exercise: Gratitude for your bills…

If you don’t have enough money, the last thing you would normally do is feel grateful for your bills, but if fact that’s exactly what you have to do to receive more money in your life.

Get your bills together and separate them into 2 piles – paid and unpaid. Get at least 10 paid bills, and all of your unpaid bills. On all of your unpaid bills, write THANK YOU FOR THE MONEY and feel grateful for the money to pay them (even if you don’t have the money). Feel grateful for the services provided to you, feel grateful that you were able to get electricity or cable or phone time without paying up front. Imagine you have the money to pay them all in full and appreciate that money to your bones. 
Now, for your last 10 bills you’ve paid, write THANK YOU – PAID and feel truly grateful you had the money to pay the bills!
 I know I’m grateful when I pay my bills every month! When I was with my abusive ex, if I wasn’t quick enough he would take the money and blow it before I had the chance to pay the bill. He’d get so mad whenever I paid the electric or for the phone bill. I still pay my bills the day I get paid, and it feels so great to have my bills paid in full, and to not worry about any negative consequences for paying my bills. I am so grateful to see zero’s on my electric bill, phone bill, and I’m even ahead with rent! Life is an amazing thing when you feel gratitude!

Magical Gratitude 28-Day Challenge: Day 8

Take a Bite Into a Gratitude Sandwich

Welcome to Day 8! We are more than 1/3 through the 28-day challenge! I don’t know about you, but things have already started magically improving in my life! 
Today we are going to express appreciation for the food we eat and the drinks we drink.
Byrne writes that giving thanks for the food one is about to eat has been practiced thousands of years, dating back to the ancient Egyptians. In Elen Sentier’s new book Shaman Pathways -Following the Deer Trods: A Practical Guide to Working with Elen of the Ways, Sentier explains that the ancients dating back to Paleolithic times, when humans were still hunter-gatherers, considered hunting a sacred rite, and gave thanks to the animals and plants who gave their lives to sustain that of the humans. (Btw – if you’re interesting in learning about Elen of the Ways, this is a great book choice! Sentier teaches a lot of exercises that help you explore the Otherworld, and helps you connect with the Universe in unique and enlightening way).
When you’re about to pop some popcorn for a movie night with your family, or pop open a bag of pretzels for your child (obviously something I just did), think about the work it took to get that food into your hands. You went to the store and spent the money, yes, but there’s more than that. The people who stocked the shelves at the store, the people who delivered the food to the store, the people who put the food into the neat mini-sized bags, the people who made the food….when you think about it, you realize that a lot of people contributed to feeding your growing child; that keep your belly from rumbling angrily when you’re hungry.

The incredible thing is that when you are grateful for food and water, it doesn’t just affect your life; your gratitude also impacts the world’s supply. If enough people felt gratitude for food and water, it would actually help the people who are starving and in great need.

Day 8 Exercise

In the morning you will add 10 more items to your thank you list, and before bed you will hold your gratitude rock and say thank you for the best thing about the day. Before you eat anything today, look at the food and say Thank you!

Magical Gratitude 28-day Challenge: Day 6 & 7

Hello my lovely readers!

We are going over day 6 and 7 today! Yesterday I went to my fathers house for Christmas, (it went well!) and after grocery shopping I was wiped out! I’m still fighting off a cold, but again, grateful it’s not worse!
So, a quick recap – everyday we are adding 10 items to our gratitude list, and before bed each night we take our rock into our hand and say thank you  – while feeling grateful for the best part of the day. I know I’ve said this every day, but I mean it from the bottom of my heart: Thank you, thank you, thank you for taking the time to read this, and hopefully for following along with me in your copy of The Magic.

Day 6: Works Like Magic

One thing I see often on social media is people complaining about their job, or their small paycheck. I’m on disability – I cannot work. I got my first job when I was 14 years old, and always did well at work, so it grinds my gears to see people taking their work for granted. Byrne says that if you are miserable at your job, the best way to get into a better job is to start being grateful for the job you have.

You should love your job, whatever it is, and be excited about going to work, and you shouldn’t settle for anything less. If you don’t feel that way about your current job, or if it’s not your dream job, the way to receive your dream job is by first being grateful for the job you have.

The Magic, p. 71

Day 6 Exercise

The next day you go to work imagine an invisible manager is following you around, taking notes of everything you’re grateful for. Does your office have good coffee? Do you have a coworker you enjoy talking to?As your “gratitude manager” follows you around during your next shift/the next time you work, have them “take note” – you will cue them to note it down by saying or thinking “I’m grateful for ______” and feel as grateful as possible. It can be anything – if no one took your stapler, the building didn’t get set on fire, that kind of stuff. (Sorry, couldn’t resist the silly Office Space reference).

Day 7: Magical Way Out of Negativity

Byrne states on page 77 that taking things for granted is a “major cause of negativity, because when we take things for granted we are not giving thanks in return, and we stop the magic from happening in our life.” She goes on to explain that being negative is impossible when you’re grateful. I cannot agree more! Since I’ve started practicing gratitude, I’m finally happy! Sure, I’ve had some trying times. There was one time my mother was fretting over a bill I had that came out of nowhere and I remember telling her “Mom, if I’m not stressing, you shouldn’t either. I will take care of it when I can, and since there is nothing I can do right this minute, I am not going to let it ruin my day.” She took a deep breath and tried to relax. I’ve been trying to explain to my mother that my life has turned around because I’m grateful for what I have, and don’t stress over what I don’t. She wonders how I can be living in section 8 (income based) housing, get only $800 a month, and not be stressed. I tell her “it’s simple: My son has a safe, warm home. We have a good routine and a healthy relationship. Neither of us ever go hungry. I have a car in the parking lot, and clothes in my closet. I have cable, and canvases, and craft supplies galore, while my son has an entire room for toys. I have done what is in my power to promote my writing business, and have applied for financial aid and payment plans for bills I cannot pay. What do I have to stress about? I’m happy, my son is happy, my life is great!” and ever since she has been coming to me for advice on what she can do to lead a happier life. It’s why I decided to get ordained through the Universal life Church – because as Reverend Amanda Wilson, I can offer advice to people of all faiths, and hopefully help them. Even if they just feel better talking to me, I’m happy and grateful.

Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful.

Day 7 Exercise

For today, your task is to choose one problem or negative situation in your life you want to resolve. List 10 things that you are grateful for about the negative situation. At the end of the list, write “Thank you, thank you, thank you, for the perfect resolution.”

For one whole day, try to get through without saying anything negative. If you catch yourself saying or even thinking something negative, stop yourself and say “But I have to say that I am really grateful for _____”
This is sort of how I boosted my self confidence. I started by giving myself one compliment a day, and stopped myself from putting myself down. If I put myself down, I would immediately counter with a compliment. It felt silly at first, but I would make a point to look in the mirror and say the compliment aloud. You get used to talking to yourself, and you finally start internalizing the truths of how great you are.

Magical Gratitude 28-day Challenge, Day 5

Hello my lovely readers! Who is feeling amazing today!? THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for joining me on this magical endeavor to transform into a grateful person! I have a cold, hence why I’m writing this later than usual. It was great to sleep in! I’m thankful that my cold isn’t as bad as it could be, and I’m thankful that I’m starting to feel better!

Let’s review…

So, every morning we are adding 10 more items to our thank you list, and before bed each night we take the gratitude rock into our hands, thinking about the best part of the day and saying thank you, feeling the energy of the gratitude fusing with the rock.

Yesterday we focused on our health and renewed our appreciation for it. Todays’ topic is a bit more touchy – something that can cause wars, murders, make people eat weird stuff and do crazy things:

 Magic Money 

Rhonda explains that if there’s a lack of money in your life, “understand that feeling worried, envious, jealous, disappointed, discouraged, doubtful, or fearful about money can never bring more money to you, because those feelings come from a lack of gratitude for the money you have.” (p.61)
This was one of the first things I started doing when I began my healing journey – I started appreciating the money I have, despite the fact that I get less in a month than many people make in a week. I’m on disability because of my mental illness – I cannot work, so I am lucky to get any money at all. I have a roof over my head, my son and I never go hungry, we are never cold, we have plenty of clothes, and my rent, electricity, and phone bills are always up to date. I am even blessed enough to have cable and internet – a blessing many people in my situation do not have. Has being grateful brought me loads of money? No, but I am confident that my gratitude for what I have is why whenever I have an unexpected expense I somehow come into money to cover it – I get a writing gig, my mother gifts it to me, I sell clothes, one time I was chosen to take a survey for Google and received a $50 gift card, which bought me an office chair I needed so I could spend a large portion of my day at my desk writing. Gratitude has made a HUGE difference in my life, especially when it comes to money.

Now, today’s exercise should have been read in the morning, so I apologize for posting this in the afternoon. But, better late than never! There are a couple steps for today’s exercise:

  1. Take a few minutes to recall all the times you have been given things at no charge to you. When you were a child, did you have toys? Meals at home, a snack and lunch at school? Did you receive gifts for your birthday or holidays? Did you have a pet? Were you rewarded for good grades, or given an allowance?  As you remember each time money was paid for you, say and feel the magic words from your heart for each instance.
  2. Take a dollar bill or small bill and put a sticker on it. (I used a Post It Note). On the sticker write: THANK YOU FOR ALL THE MONEY I’VE BEEN GIVEN THROUGHOUT MY LIFE.

  3. Take your magic bill with you today, and at least once in the morning (oops, lol you can do it tomorrow too), once in the afternoon, and once in the evening, or as many times as you want, and take the bill out. With the Magic bill in your hands, read the words you wrote and be truly grateful for the abundance of money you’ve been given. 
  4. After today, put the Magic bill somewhere you can see it everyday, to remind you to continue to be grateful for the abundance of money you have been given in your life.
I think it will be fine to perform this now, or you can repeat the process tomorrow. And speaking of tomorrow, I will be doing it a little differently. Tomorrow’s exercise is intended to be done while you’re at work, and because many people don’t work on Sundays, I will be providing day 7’s instructions as well – Byrne explains that if you aren’t going to work on day 6 to perform day 7, then go back to day 6 when you go to work.

The Wheel Is Rolling On! Preparing for Lughnasadh

Lughnasadh is all but upon us!


 I don’t know about you, but I LOVE celebrating Sabbats! I feel like I did when I was 6 years old on Christmas Eve – all but trembling with anticipation and joy for presents and wearing my “holiday clothes” and seeing family. I get to spend the day focusing on things in life that matter but make me happy, things that make life worth living. I love how the air seems to change as it draws closer to a Sabbat. It’s as if there’s electricity in the air and the closer it gets to the day the stronger the charge. Some sources say that the Veil thins on all of the Blessed days (not just on Samhain). I believe that. I’m a medium so I can sense beings from the Other side. The Veil is the thinnest on Samhain that’s for sure. The electricity I feel before every other Sabbat is nothing in comparison to how it feels in October. But that’s for another day! Today I am going to tell you:
  •  what Lughnasadh means to me
  • what I’ll be doing to celebrate
  • suggest activities for families/covens/solitary witches
  • share a ritual and go over ideal spell themes.

What Lughnasadh is All About

For the ancient Celts, Lughnasadh first of the harvest festivals (harvest of fruits). 
It was time to begin harvesting corn as well.

It marked the point of the year when nights grow noticeably longer. Celtic days started with sunset so they actually began the celebrations the night before the first of the month. They had a different calendar than we do so if you want to do it like the Celts you’d observe Lughnasadh on the first full moon of August. 


Lughnasadh began with the Celtic god Lugh – hence the name (it’s Gaelic for “Commemoration of Lugh”). Lugh held a feast in honor of his stepmother, Tailtiu. She is said to have been the one who introduced agriculture to Ireland which is why Lughnasadh is linked to the land and harvest.

In modern times we typically don’t rely on crops and livestock for food, so the focus translates to things applicable to today’s world. This is a day to appreciate what we have. Make a meal that has meaning to you, like using a recipe that’s been passed down from generation to generation. I will be making chicken soup because the recipe holds sentimental value for me. My younger brother and his girlfriend just purchased their first house not too long ago- he’s only 27! I’m 30 and the only thing I own is my car (😥) – but despite my envy, I am beyond proud of my brother and what he has accomplished. The amount of time and energy and love he and his partner have put into the house is incredible and the result is a warm, welcoming home (although one of their dogs was not keen on welcoming my toddler). My brother’s girlfriend made us chicken soup from scratch for supper. My son, who I normally have to force feed if it’s not mac and cheese, sat at the table like a grown up and ate all of his soup! It was phenomenal! So when I make the soup I will think of family, of the strong bonds siblings have, of talent and creativity, and of perseverance to make a house into a home. 


Other than food the themes of Lughnasadh are: 

  • abundance
  • prosperity
  • a time to begin new projects/careers or set new goals
  • gratitude
  • family 
  • protection of hearth and home

Lughnasadh Activities 

I have quite a few activities planned for Lughnasadh this year. The first task will be preparing the feast. Well, soup isn’t really a feast but it’s still fun to say. I’m making chicken soup from scratch and serving it with rosemary french bread. It’ll go in the crockpot so I’ll throw the veggies together in the morning and start them cooking in the broth with herbs. I will check on it periodically and do the next steps in stages throughout the day. Being a harvest festival I plan to harvest some flowers from my garden to make a decorative centerpiece for my table. I’m going to make sure I’ve got everything I need for the ritual and spellwork. Then I’m going to clean the house from top to bottom! While I clean I will memorize my lines for the ritual. I wouldn’t look like a very competent priestess if I’m fumbling with note cards or a book while I lead ritual!

I’ll have my son ‘help’ me by giving him a squirt bottle of water and a rag to have him wash the walls. He’s 2 and at that stage where he wants to be involved in everything I do. 

When the cleaning is done it’ll be time for something fun with the Gods in mind – part of my devotional practice is to do arts and crafts making something for them at least once a week, so, this is the perfect day to do so! I’ve already made statues as offerings so I’ll make decorative altarpieces while my son makes a mess with his Model Magic. I favor Sculpey clay but it’s not really child-friendly. Crayola’s model magic never dries so it’s perfect for little ones who tend to leave it out for hours but keep coming back throughout the day. 

Some activities you could partake in are:

  • Painting/Drawing (of what you want, of the Deities, of what you’re celebrating today)
  • Sculpting (statue of the Deities, a mini spear for Lugh, a Goddess statue for Anu, an offering dish for the ritual/your altar)
  • create Corn Dolly’s for the ritual (to represent the Deities)
  • Go for a walk and find the perfect stick to be your wand for the rites, or if its’ big enough to be your staff- my son LOVED when I took him to help me find my staff

When the arts and crafts are done, and supper time is coming close, I will turn the crock pot to low and take my son outside so he can play for 20 minutes while I ground myself. I will take off my shoes so I can actually feel the earth beneath me. I will feel the strong, unbending ground and the warm, exhilarating sun on my skin and I will think about Anu and Lugh. I will think about ways they have affected my life, ways they could help me with my goals for the next phase of the year, how my love for them runs so deep and strong like the roots of an ancient tree. This is something I try to do every day as a part of my devotional practice for the Morrigan (I’m a priestess for the Morrigan so I will interact with her multiple times a day).

Since I don’t want to impact the efficiency of the ritual I’m planning I have designed one especially for you, my lovely readers. I have been really drawn to Celtic magic lately, so I have written a ritual that combines practices of Druidry, Celtic magic, and Wicca.  The ritual will be honoring Lugh and Anu, the Goddess of the Land,  the mother of the Gods and one of the three Morrigans. You will acknowledge and provide an offering for your ancestors and the Spirits of the Land as well. The intent of the ritual is to recognize and give thanks for the abundance in your life – what you’ve ‘harvested’ from your hard work and dedication. This could be beautiful paintings as a result of study and practice, a raise or promotion at work after years of working your ass off, a garden full of gorgeous flowers after spending all those days getting bitten by bugs, dirt under your nails and sunburns on the back of your neck because you were sitting on the ground messing with the soil, pruning the massive plants (I have some flowers that grow so big they weigh down the whole plant), or anything else that applies to you!

Before the ritual, you should clean your whole house. This is something I do with every turn of the year. Witchcraft values order, balance, and efficiency. By going through your house cleaning and organizing each room you are setting up the home for maximum efficiency. If you come across things that are no longer of use- and be honest with yourself here!- you should consider donating or recycling it. I used to have the hardest time letting go of things, but I’ve come to learn they are just that: things. Would I save them in case of a fire? No. So no sense keeping them in that box you keep tripping over because it doesn’t fit in the closet. My rule of thumb is if I haven’t thought of the thing in 6 months then its time to move it along (obviously certain things are exempt, like your kids’ first outfit or heirlooms etc.). When your home is clean and organized the energy tends to be more positive and light. The Faeries certainly prefer a clean and orderly home over one that is cluttered, dark, and dusty. 


Now that your house is clean you probably are not. So take a shower and scrub yourself clean. You will be inviting Gods into your home tonight and you don’t want to be grubby doing it!  As you’re washing your body let go of all the things stressing you out. Let it slide down your body like the water drops and swirl down the drain with the soap and water. When you are washing between your toes you are washing away the bricks of stress weighing you down. Exfoliating your face is clearing the clutter from your mind as the gunk is cleaned out of your pores. The Celtic gods appreciate cleanliness and this definitely applies to you as well. Even if you aren’t honoring Lugh and Anu, taking a ritual shower or bath is common practice before a ritual. Cleansing yourself helps to cleanse your mind and soul which allows for a fierce focus on the working.


🌖Lughnasadh Ritual🌖


You’ve cleansed your body and your home so now you will move on to the next step in preparation. You should anoint yourself and perform a self-blessing. Just dap a bit of oil on your chakra points and ask your Patron/Matron deity to bless you tonight. If you don’t have one then ask the Universe.

 You want to wear clothing that is both comfortable, easy to move in, doesn’t pose a fire risk (long flowy sleeves + candles = OUCH). You also want to wear something that makes you feel Witchy. When you have clothes dedicated to ritual use only you will feel magical when you put them on and it will assist in the shift in consciousness, help you stay focused, heighten your psychic senses.  


Items Needed:

  • Candles to represent Anu, & Lugh (green and gold are common choices)
  • Altarpieces that make you think of the intent – like photos of your garden, a pay stub, the painting you’re proud of.
  • offerings for the ancestors, land spirits and the Deities – traditionally this would be whiskey, wine, herbs, honey but when it comes to offerings I always tell people it’s not WHAT you give but HOW you give it. Now the Fae do appreciate shiny trinkets and sweet food/drinks, like milk and honey. But offerings for Deities must come from the heart. Don’t go out and get whiskey and absently pour the libations. You could offer herbs the Deity is said to favor, offer food or drink that you particularly favor, make something for them like a painting or a sculpture, or perform a duty in honor of them. Offerings can be as unique as the individual laying them out.
  • Incense: I know there are lists all over the internet that tell you which incense is appropriate for Lughnasadh. When I choose incense for rituals I use my intuition. Certain scents act as keys, that is once I smell them my chakras open and my energy becomes grounded, I start breathing slow and steady and my consciousness shifts to the necessary level for magic and devotionals. Nag Champa, Dragons Blood, and chakra aligning incense sticks are my go-to’s but choose what works for you.
  • Magical Tools: tools are more than objects that assist us with a task, they are symbols for different concepts or themes in life. The tools that we will recognize/use in this ritual are the cauldron, the torc, the sword and the spear. If you don’t have these things don’t fret. You could use a bowl, a necklace, an athame (I’m using a dagger), and a stick. I’ll be using clay statues of these things and the dagger to cast the circle and open the barrier etc. You could have pictures of these things too, the whole idea is what these things symbolize.

Bring all these things to your altar and set them aside – not on the altar yet. Light some sage or a cleansing incense. Rosemary, patchouli, dragon’s blood, frankincense, myrrh, and vervain all work great to clear the air of negative energy. And by negative I don’t mean ghosts – negative energy is energy that distracts from the intention of the working. So, cleanse the air, and then smudge your tools one by one as you put them on your altar. I’m not going to tell you how to set up your altar – the Gods don’t care where everything is. Do what works for you. I like to have the tools arranged by the quarters, so candles in the southern corner, incense in the east, water or my cauldron in the west and then salt or soil from my property in the north. Again, this works for me but do what works for you!


Before you cast the circle center yourself – find your point of power (usually in the belly) and rock gently back and forth until you come to a natural stop, then rock side to side until you come to a natural stop. Now release all tension, control your breathing. Focus on your feet. From the bottom of your feet, roots are extending, they reach down into the ground -the body of the Earth Mother Anu, and when they come to a natural stop your breathing pulls up the Waters of the Earth, the natural currents that charge the power of the earth. With each breath, these waters rise higher. Continue until they fill your body. Now focus on the sky – see the Sun in your mind’s eye. Now see the moon, the stars. See them together in a beautiful blended sky. Open your Crown and accept the golden stream of light, the Fire power from the Sky. Again pull it towards you and into your with each breath. Take a moment to feel the combined powers merging with your own. When you cast the circle, see the Waters of the Underworld and the Fire of the Sky emerge from your finger (or athame or wand whichever you prefer). As they meet they form protective Mist, that is both a barrier and a boundary, establishing a safe space in which you will conduct your ritual and carry out your workings.  As you rotate you could think or say something to this effect:

I cast now a circle of the Waters of Anu and the Fire of Lugh, a circle of mists that protects from the unwanted and invites the Divine. In the name of Anu and Lugh this circle is sealed!

Now call the Airts. If you have a call you particularly like then you may use it, or you can make one up. Ian Corrigan’s Sacred Fire, Holy Well he provides an exercise to attune to the Four Airts, but I like to use it as the call. The short and sweet invocation for each corner allows for time to envision the wind and feel the qualities enter the circle and intertwine with your energy.

East wind blow Bounty

See red wind blow from the east and enter your circle, swirling around you clockwise until it wraps around you bringing the awareness of wealth in your life and the power of growth.

South wind blow Song

See white wind from the south blowing in and filling you with energy and new impulse.

West wind blow Wisdom

See the twilight gray wind enter your circle and infusing your spirit with knowledge and inspiration. 

North wind blow Strong

A black wind swirls in and around you, bringing strength and stability. 

Light the candle for Anu as you raise your power hand and with your wand/athame or finger, draw an invoking spiral (start in the middle and rotate clockwise). See the mist parting and Anu appearing and stepping forward as you say:

I call to you, Anu, Goddess of the Land and Mother of Gods, to come to my sacred circle to join and bless this Lughnasadh rite. Hail and Welcome Earth Mother Anu!

Now light the candle for Lugh and repeat the process, saying:

I call to you Lugh, God of Light, to come to my sacred circle to join and bless this Lughnasadh rite. Hail and Welcome, Master of Skills Lugh!

Take the offering for the Ancestors and as you pour/place it into the offering dish say:

With this offering I honor you, Ancestors of Blood and Bone. May you bless this rite with your wisdom and love.

Take the offering for the Land Spirits and as you pour/place it into the offering dish say:

With this offering I honor you Spirits of the Land, Guardians of this place. May you bless this rite with your protection.

Now state the intention of the ritual. Acknowledge the ways in which Anu and Lugh have blessed you thus far (say at least one specific thing, like “thank you Lugh for helping me write that proposal that got me my promotion”, or “thank you Anu for blessing me with perseverance I needed to reach my weight goals”). Next share with them the goals you have for the future, and request that the bless you with their virtues so that you will achieve them.

Take the offering you have for Anu. Hold it up above the altar and say:

Behold my offering for Anu, a token of my respect, love, and gratitude. 

Place/pour into the offering dish and repeat for Lugh:

Behold my offering for Lugh, a token of my respect, love and gratitude. 

 If you have any spellwork planned you may proceed with it. If you don’t, you may perform divination, using Tarot or scrying to find an answer to any burning questions you have or to obtain advice on how to achieve your goals. You could just sit and communicate with the Deities. Be sure to write down messages your receive and any feelings/sensations you felt during the ritual.  

When you are ready to end the ritual thank and dismiss the Deities and then the Energies of the Directions. Saying something like “Thank you for joining me on this night. Depart in peace ____”


Open the circle by extending your power arm and rotating counterclockwise, envisioning the mist separating into the Water and Fire and returning to the Earth and Sky.


🌖 Lughnasadh Spell✨🌖

Lughnasadh is a great time for spells that involve prosperity, abundance, relationships, and protection. The moon phase for tomorrow night is Waning Gibbous, so for prosperity and abundance, I recommend casting the spell during the day, drawing from the Sun’s energy. The Sun has cycles just like the moon. From sunrise to noon it’s like the waxing moon so spells bringing things to you are best, from noon to three the sun is most powerful so you could cast any kind of spell and typically from 3 until dusk you would cast for release, serenity or removal. 
The Druids follow the year’s cycle just as Wiccans do but with a few differences. Again explaining this in detail would warrant another full article, but here it is in a nutshell: instead of a hierarchical modal of realms, they believe that the Upper- and Underworlds manifest themselves here on Earth in various time phrases. There are specific moon phases, times and holy days that correspond to each Station of the Year – Station being holy days. For Lughnasadh, the energies for spellcasting are strongest when the moon is a Waning Gibbous between the hours of 3 and 5:59 in the evening. This year the moon is, as I said earlier in Waning Gibbous so from 3 until 5:59 tomorrow would be the best time to perform your ritual and spells. You would draw on the powers of the Sun, the Moon, and of the earth. 

I am a firm believer that the most effective spells are ones you write yourself because that much more energy is put into manifesting your Will. I will provide a spell I’ve found to be effective and easy to manipulate to cover just about any type of spell. 

Anu Earth Magick Spell¹
This spell involves calling on Anu and the element of earth to manifest your desired goal. Useful for material things, such as money for a bill, a new job/promotion, new car or home, etc.
Items Needed: 
  • Anu’s incense (small pinch of soil, 3 tbsp of mugwort, 2 tbsp Irish moss)
  • a small bowl
  • 1 cup soil from your property
  • Athame
Light the incense and pass the bowl through the smoke. Fill the bowl with the soil. Hold your hands over the bowl and say:

I am one with Anu, Mother of the Land, whose body is the green and fertile hills, whose blood flows through the rivers, whose bones are the stones of the earth. The power of the earth flows through me, I am one with the spirit of the earth, I am one with Anu!

With your finger or athame draw a symbol representing what you wish to manifest in the soil. See your desire clearly in your mind and see it flowing into the soil, moving from the realm of Energy to the physical realm to manifest in your life. When you’re done sprinkle the soil outside on your property (releasing it into the Universe to manifest and send you what you want). (Woodfield, 2011, p.90-92)
